Has anyone out there got/used a Sony Ericsson K800i? I'm most interested in the text messaging system for it (and if you can use a computer to send texts through it via usb)

My new phone, a Samsung D900 Chrome, is driving me nuts - the UI was designed by monkeys.

Example. To send a text message - choose message, choose send text message, choose okay, enter message, choose send, choose by text, choose contacts, select contact, check contact, check okay, confirm, check send again.

Bloomin' hell, with my old motorola that took about 4 selections at most, and my nokia took about three. Bleh.

I the k800i, I have a shortcut set up for messaging

joystick right, enter, type message, send, pick contact from list of recently sent or from phonebook, send. That's it :)

Don't know about sending through USSneveied.

That sounds good; does it list contacts in the 'sent messages' by name rather than phone number as well?

Would you recommend the k800i then?

It lists them in the sent messages folder in the order you sent them, so the most often sent to names are always near the top. :)

And yes, I would very much recommend it, I still haven't fully explored all the fun things it can supposedly do! The only thing is the keyboard is a bit small, so it take s a little getting used to but once you've got the hang of it it's great. Not everyone finds it small anyway though, I just have big fingers ;)

Thank you sir! It sounds good; I'm looking at it or the Nokia 6300; just wish I could find more details about the PC software for them both, the reviews never seem to mention anything.

Well, the sony software is ok, synchronising contacts/calendars/to-do/etc is easy. The software has a MMS studio that you can use to make and send MMSs, and all the usual image editor stuff. Even comes with a version of Adobe photoshop album. :)

There's countless third party applications flying around as well that can do pretty much whatever you want, but I've not bothered with them myself. :)

The only thing I don't think is possible that I *would* like, is the ability to transfer texts to the PC for backup, also I would like to be able to store them in subfolders on the phone, but can't. Those are the only downsides I can think of though, and are minor for me. :)

Sounds like it's worthwhile then, my samsung looks nice but the UI, as I say, is very annoying; random beeps you can't remove, can't change text size, navigation confirmations a bundle, bleh.

I have the Sony W810i and I like.

To send a text - press "joystick" center button 4 times (the default actions are: menu, messaging, write new, text), enter message, press continue button then either press center button for contacts look up (alphabetical) or use "joystick" to scroll down latest used numbers. Press center button again. Basically Sony have thought about what you'd usually do in most situations and put that as the default centre button.

Not bothered with messaging shortcut because it's so simple anyway.

Note joystick is in quotes because it's really 5 buttons - up/down/left/right/centre - not a joystick at all, but it kinda looks like one.

Oh and the fact it has a radio and can play mp3s and has a 2mb camera with (digital) zoom (and a light and macro setting and video camera) and has buttons big enough for me to get my pudgy fingers on, swayed it for me ;)

PS it can also run Opera and a Googlemail ap, though I guess any Java phone can these days.

(That'll be £50 please Sony, thanks)

:)

Cool, I just like being able to type my texts on my PC rather than the interface, but if it's that easy I may well be converted :)

I must admit I am finding this with my samsung D900. It takes so many selections to do that.
I do like most other things about it though. I am loving particularly the speed with which I can take random photos and bluetooth them to my computer!
Other than that, no sorry, I can't help you.

I've got one and I love it. I haven't used it in the way you are asking about but texting in general is fine.

I use the 750i. I like it. The only problems I've encountered is the joysticks can get worn or sometimes it gets a bit of grit under it and can be a bit dodgy.
