Geekery...

Is it too geeky to want to implement the same encryption/protection routine used in the save files for the BBC Micro for the Elite game for a key validation system I'm writing?

If not... anyone know where I can find it, as I can't!

Yes, that is very geeky indeed.

Did they ever port the game to the PS-2?

* That's the IBM PS-2 I have in a cupboard somewhere in Leicester?

An IBM PC version was done; but I don't know if the PS-2 would cope; you needed EGA at least if memory serves.

The BBC Micro version of Elite didn't encrypt commander files — it's just that the data format was decidedly obtuse in various ways. There were sixteen bits of validity check, but not anything that could reasonably be called robust.

Somewhere I still have a commander editor in BBC Basic.

(If you're going to ask one of Braben and Bell, pick Bell.)

It's always a little disconcerting when you stumble seemingly randomly across a journal (you can't remember how). Then you discover that you have 2 mutual LJ friends... Then you discover that you have some connection with the latest post in their journal. Hmmm. Tis just a small world.

But hey, via here I found the State Nations thingy and discovered someone had a Nation of Grendel's! Clearly time for bed now. :)

You still after that Lorina McKennitt CD?

Loreena McKennitt; I seem to have forgotten the reference whereby I was looking for it... unless you mean my amazon wishlist?

Yeah, just the Wish List (excuse my nocturnal lack of spelling ability).

If you want to hear a truely angelic vocal, try Cara Dillon (http://www.caradillon.co.uk/). I used to use Loreena's stuff as vocal exercise... as it isn't demanding. She's actually just clever at just making the most of what she's got, and technologically enhancing that :) She also gathers great musician's around her. Clever :)

Cheers! I shall look her up; more serene artists are always appreciated.

In turn I heartily recommend Nerina Pallot who must be heard on an acoustic set to be fully appreciated, why she hasn't released an acoustic cd (unless I've missed one) is beyond me.
