A free office suite package, I've known about it for ages but in the spirit of keeping my new PC legal decided to install it.

It replaces (and can read/write) word/excel/etc documents.

Very nice, I like it.

Well Staroffice a) costs $79 and b) is for Linux.

Looks like I looked at a bad link. StarOffice is now built from OpenOffice anyway, they're virtually the same thing it seems.

It's not just for Linux, ol' buddy! :o) Prior to upgrading to OpenOffice.org 1.1 I was using StarOffice 6.0 (available for Windows, Linux and Solaris, and an alias of OpenOffice.org 1.0).

OpenOffice.org 2.0 should be a big improvement in terms of speed and, er, not looking like a Windows 95 app, and a release candidate should be available in March/April...
