We have the technology, I can hopefully build it...

Athlon 64 3500+ CPU ** PIB with fan **
Asus A8V Deluxe Athlon 64 Mainboard (no pci-e - boo!)
128mb ATI Radeon 9800 PRO AGP
512Mb 184 Pin PC3200 DDR Ram (400)
512Mb 184 Pin PC3200 DDR Ram (400)
160Gb Serial ATA 7200RPM 8Mb Cache HD
NEC ND3500 16x DVD/4X Dual Layer Recorder
LGS 16x DVDRom 52x CD Re-Writer EIDE OEM
Quality ATX 400 Watt PSU CE Approved
Floppy drive

And maybe...
Pending on board sound quality, or I may just transfer my 3D card instead.
Sound Blaster Live! 24 bit PCI (OEM)

Seems okay to me, more than I wanted to spend... still; not had a new machine in ages

I wasn't looking at price yet (or suppliers, local dealer would be around 840 for what I quotes)

Who are you looking at as a supplier?

Mesh. The price for the closest setup I could find to your selection was something like £890 inc VAT and delivery.

I have a special spreadsheet which I use for pricing up computers, and I'm so used to getting a list of components and putting the costs from our suppliers's site into it, I sort of did this one by accident.

With the exception of the sound card and the CD-RW, I've priced that lot up at £598.84. Is that better or worse than what you've got for it?

Including. Should really have mentioned that.

Very nice pirce, that a mix and match; not decided where to get mine yet; would be 800+ from local shop tho'

That's with the exact components you mentioned above. I excluded the CD-RW because I couldn't find one that matched it exactly, and I decided to go home instead of umming and ahhing over a suitable substitute.

That from shopping around with multiple people then?

Nope. Single local supplier who we have a trade account with.

We usually mark it up by a third, but I could probably wangle it at trade price if you wanted me to look into it. I'm not sure how their shipping upscales to elsewhere around the country, though.

Ahhh trade prices, that explains.
I'd likely be interested if you could find out if it's possible. :)

Haven't yet; still pondering

I was dearly hoping the cut-tag was hiding the sentence, "... a life size Millenium Falcon!!!1! In my garden!!!1! In time for my Star Wars Christmas Party!!!!!1!!!1!!"

But no. Once again I am let down in life by my unrealistic hopes and dreams.

I could've made a good Han Solo. Hey, I would even've stooped to a stormtrooper or Imperial technician if it would've got me in the Falcon. But now the moment is lost.

Gigabyte K8NF-9 nForce4 (Socket 939) PCI Express Motherboard (MB-032-GI) In Stock

But that appears to be it (and it is Gigabyte, yawn), although there seem to be a bazillion nForce4 SLI motherboards arriving on most websites, suggesting they'll be in stock soon (one Asus SLI board is listed as being in stock on Monday).

Shame your computer didn't die a fortnight later, really...

Well it's dyning, rather than dead so I may have to force myself to wait...

But that means no shiney new PC over Christmas :(
