Spurred by a comment from somewhere else in the ether...

I listen to a lot of soundtracks, sometimes without actually ever seeing the film in question, so it occured to me to ponder - what are your favourite soundtrack albums, and have you actually seen the film/show in question?

Mine?

1. Bladerunner (Vangellis).
An Easy one. I've seen this film dozens of time, listened to the album hundreds of times at least.
2. The virgin suicides (Air).
A beautifully dark, haunting and moody album. I've not seen the film yet and am a little afraid in a way seeing it would spoil this album, I still would like to however.
3. Labyrinth (Bowie/Others).
Besides the wonderful 'As the world falls down' and 'Magic dance' it has several lovely atmospheric and dreamy pieces on it (Hallucination). Theres actually only one track I don't like but it's definately one of my favourite albums ever.

I don't own all that many soundtracks, and definitely not any where I haven't seen the film, but I think I'd go with Pulp Fiction, The Matrix and Scream.

Have you had a chance to listen to the CD yet?

Not yet; I'd just started for work when I remembered it, I'll bring it along for afternoon listening.

I want the soundtrack to Silence of the Lambs - not the incidental music one, but the 'songs from' one. There's a fabulous Europop track on it that was never released in any other format - Goodbye Horses by Q Lazzarus. Sadly the album is deleted at present.

EBay can be a good bet for this.

All I've ever managed to find is the orchestral one.

Hell yeah - I have way loads of soundtrack albums.

Just looking at the shelf infront of me, I see some of my favourites (in no particular order):

Mortal Kombat
The movie gets slated, but I kinda like it. The soundtrack however is wonderful. From the hauntingly beutiful Orbital track to Napalm Death. Now that's what I call variation!
Note: probably seen the movie around 10-15 times. Yeah, call me a fanboy.

The Lost Boys
Conveys thoughts of the movie wonderfully, and is sooooo eighties!
Probably only seen the movie about 5-6 times.

The Matrix
Yeah, well, had to be on there somewhere, given I like this kinda music anyway. There's some great tracks here.
Only seen the movie three times, but own the DVD.

Flash Gordon / Highlander
I'm not a huge Queen fan, but both of these are good fun album, that accurately conjure up the moods of the relevant movies.
Movie? Yeah, seen Flash about half a dozen times. Highlander? Erm, around 30 ish I guess.

The quality of the soundtracks on these movies is something that significantly adds to their ability to be rewatched IMO, as you can almost just have them on in the background.

Yeah, I know. Reminds me though - having only gotten up at 09:00 (after 4 hours sleep) I ought to get around to eating breakfast!

This looking for a job lark has really screwed with my sleeping pattern!

Just hoping I get good news back today about the interview I went for on Monday.

Just listening to a new CD I got yesterday - "The Rock Matrix" - it's a double CD compilation of "tracks that should have been in the movie" and is pretty damned good so far!

Matrix soundtrack I absolutely loved.
Crimson Tide soundtrack was pretty good.
Legends of the Fall, I only liked one song, so I d/led only that one :)
Interview with a Vampire was fair.

Concurrence on the Grosse Point Blank soundtrack, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

That I could assemble almost all of it from my mp3 collection isn't the issue. That soundtrack needs to be available in all good retail outlets.

For the Virgin Suicides I've got the book and the movie so when you're round on Friday feel free to pick at them :o)

I really like the soundtrack to 1492:Conquest of paradise - also by Vangelis. I haven't seen the movie and from what I heard from other ppl not worth it.

Also Black Cat White Cat soundtrack - but I think it's more of an acquired taste. It's similar in style to Goran Bregovic's music - it has Slavic and Gypsy themes to it, it's kinda tradional music popular especially round the Balkans. And the movie I'd definetly recommend to watch.

I also think Quentin Tarantino is quite good at picking music for his movies. With him it isn't just the one soundtrack though - but if pushed I'd probably say Pulp Fiction.

I'm a soundtrack nerd. Labyrinth is definetley one of my favourites, but I also love the Pretty In Pink Soundtrack, The score to The Crow, Gladiator, City Of The Lost Children, Baz Lurhmans Romeo and Juliet (1&2) among many others, but those are just the 1st few that I pulled off the topof my head

The Crow (the score, not the one with the songs) is great. Very good for RP background.
The same applies to the LotR ones.
I also like Interview with a Vampire.
Rocky Horror doesn't really count as it's not the soundtrack as such.

Instantly recognisable bits: Star Wars fanfare/dark side theme and the Indiana Jones theme.

The Matrix had a couple of good soundtracks.
The SSX Snowboarding games on PS2 had amazing soundtracks.
Empire Records had good songs too.
That's all I can think of while I'm at work. I'm sure there's more.

star wars et al. yes. episode 2 the best so far, the leitmotifs are entrancing.

crash. yes. ethereal guitars and sound effects. see also all other howard shore.

solaris (yes, but inspired to listen to soundtrack by [livejournal.com profile] grahamb). very relaxing and sleepy, but also still moving and unsettling.
