Great night yesterday at the calling, managed to survive dancing most of the night away pretty well, this gym lark must be doing something good.

My parrotpenguin was well received and he gained a few fans, I managed to keep my hat as well, huzah!

Pictures of my pirate penguin self on flickr, dodgey self timer balancing act!

Ah ha! I _knew_ there was something different about you when we chatted (or should that be yelled) at the Rome Burns gig

Hello! We met last night and I have tracked you down on LJ. Do you mind if I friend you? Also - do you really have Marillion on your interest list?! Excellent taste. Which do you prefer, old or new Marillion? Are you going to see them in June?

It was nice to meet you and Eric; perhaps I'll bring Wilberforce the octopus next week.

Rachel

Hello there, feel free to friend away!

As to Marillion; I like some of the late fish stuff (mostly Misplaced Childhood and bits of Fugazi) but I much prefer the 'Hogath years', Seasons End is the album I was introduced to them with and it remains my favourite, but Brave is also excellent.

I didn't know they were touring at the moment, I haven't actually seen them since they did a gig in Cambridge last, which was in the pub that was at the Vine; where are they playing?

I prefer the Hogarth years too. The first Marillion album I heard was Afraid of Sunlight but I'd say Brave was probably my favourite. I liked their last-but-one album, Marbles, a lot too.

They're playing at the Junction on (I think) the 13th of June and I shall be going!

Holidays in Eden was also excellent, although mainly for Cover my eyes which is probably my (current) favourite song of theirs, either that or Uninvited guest.
Marbles I've missed out on as I'm missing the more 'recent' albums (how long have they been going now?!), I think Anoraknophobia is the last one of theirs I've bought!

The junction? Excellent, that's right on the doorstep! I'll have to see if they have any tickets left.

Ah, Marbles is terrific. I thought it was a return to form after Anoraknophobia, which I do like but took a long time to grow on me. My friend Martin, whose life I warped by introducing him to Marillion at the age of 15, has a copy of their latest album but I've not yet had a listen. Should be a good show regardless, I think!

Hunting down a ticket as we speak, well, type!

I was introduced to Marillion by a guy named Mark Kelly, spookily the same name as their keyboard player and, if I remember correctly, the only original band member left!

I'll have to beg/borrow/cadge a listen of Marbles from you so I can hear what they are doing at the moment - although I suspect their gig will be mostly the new stuff I'll be hoping for Uninvited Guest at least.

Last time I saw them Steve had a cricket bat he'd modified to play as a keyboard, was a great show :)

You're more than welcome to borrow Marbles from me at some point - the very pretty boxed hard copy is at home but it's been copied to my laptop.

That is pretty spooky. I first heard Marillion when I found a couple of new, still shrink-wrapped CD singles on the bookshelf at home. Nobody would admit to putting them there, which I think is also quite spooky...

I've seen them once, in June 2004 - I think Steve had the cricket bat then too. It was fantastic :D

Did you preorder Marbles? As if I remember that was their web-based album and those that did got their names in the album sleeve as a 'thankyou'.
Regardless I'd love to hear a copy, been missing out on their recent stuff as I say.

Mystery of the hidden CDs eh? Dark secrets or interdimensional musical gateways... hopefully the latter as it's much more interesting.

I've only seen them once myself as well; and... rummages through music I have Afraid of Sunlight, Anoraknophobia, Brave, Clutching at Straws, Crash, Holidays in Eden, Best of Both Worlds, Misplaced Childhood, Radiation, Script for a Jesters Tear and Seasons End, if you'd like a copt of any of those in return - the last of which I heartily recommend if you haven't heard it; Clutching at Straws is also well worth a listen if you're not Fish-a-phobic.

I did pre-order Marbles and my name is in there somewhere. I wanted to pre-order the new one but was skint at the wrong time :(. I can probably burn you a copy for the next Calling or WUS if you're likely to be there.

I think I've got most of the same albums as you, except I've never heard Crash and lost my copy of Radiation years ago. I'd be extremely glad to borrow that - I miss it!

Ah, curse my typoid fingers; I meant to type 'crash course' there, rather than 'crash' it's a sort of sampler CD of Marillion stuff than an album.

I should be at both the next WUS and Calling, so I'll bring along a copy of Radiation for you should you be there.

Ticket ordered for the gig, huzah!
