[livejournal.com profile] nannyo asked me who my five top electronic bands were; 'electronic' is a pretty broad category, but currently I'd say...

1. Air French electro trip-hop perfection, I've been spellbound by what they do ever since I happened on the Virgin Suicides soundtrack. Live they are even better. New album just out this month!
2. Orbital The Altogether is one of my favourite albums ever, Orbital manage to produce such a wide range of feelings, sounds and themes in their music it's difficult to categorise them in a single genre, however 'electronic' they are.
3. IAMX Solo project from Chris Corner (a la Sneaker Pimps fame) fantastically emotive work, and although he's only produced one album so far this is a very very worthy entry. Plus I'm seeing them on monday :D
4. AES DANA Mellow, smooth and warm like a good hot chocolate drink. Music to drift and flow to; AES DANA are the cream of the Ultimae record labels very high quality crop.
5. Jean Michel Jarre The father of the electronic genre to me. His ability to blend simple tunes into a much more complex track is simply amazing. Coupled with the themes that flow through his albums he is nothing short of brilliant. Dismissed by some for the simplistic style of his music this is just another strength of his sound.

Honourable mention: The orb
very few haven't heard Little fluffy clouds but there is so, so much more they've done; and a lot of it is a hell of a lot better.

I'm a huge fan of Air too. I saw them live in Manchester when Talkie Walkie came out.

I also quite like Add N To (X), especially Loud Like Nature.

They're touring again for their new album (Which came out March 5th)

Add N to (X)? I shall have to look them up :)

The first few albums are bleepy and slightly hollow sounding in comparison to the latter album, which has a much clearer bonucy melody component.

They've been around for ages - they played at Reading festival in 1999

Thanks, I know three of the six, so I'll be hitting the torrents tonight to listen to IAMX and AES DANA if I can find any (I'm not sure about Orbital, it's ringing bells (well, you know what I mean!) but I'm helping to run a convention called Orbital so I don't know if that's why!)
