Master plan Alpha for music
Jul. 12th, 2006 04:40 pmFor reference to myself, to plot progress or just sort things out in my mind.
Speakers: At least 4 with decent bass or possibly an additional subwoofer.
Output: Through controlled Amp from PC output.
Control: Via touchscreen tablet PC that controls my main music PC (via VNC or similar)
To do:
1. Build music PC and fill with more music than god
- Neverending, current music tally, just over 11,000.
- Music PC now upgraded by requires additional fan cooling (silent fan for cpu and case)
2. Select music UI system I am happy with decent interface for touchscreen
- Done (Media Jukebox)- Although I may end up writing one myself anyway
3. Select and install speaker set
- Pending. Need to determine optimal locations around room, bonus points for setting them up for future "room as escher" design. Speakers likely to be from Richer Sounds.
4. Drill/cut connecting point from computer room to bedroom and fit tidy plastic tubing.
- Pending. Will need to ensure I don't drill through any cables as there are wire points nearby.
5. Select a decent amp and install.
- Pending. Richer sounds again, more than likely.
6. Select suitable soundcard or method of connecting existing soundcard to amp, wire in speakers.
- Pending. Will actually have working system at this point.
7. Select/Buy suitable touchscreen tablet pc (at least 8" screen) for remote control of main music PC. Must be silent. Must have networking. Colour optional.
- Pending. Investigate options.
8. Install swingout mechanism under bed to "caddy" control PC.
- Pending. Once Tablet PC is done.
Suggestions for tablet pcs/amps/speakers and suitable soundcards welcome :)

Date: 2006-07-12 04:04 pm (UTC)My own plan is to get a squeezebox - initially for the living room, but eventually another one for the bedroom too, which streams music from your PC over wifi, which you can then connect to your amp and speakers.
