Contemplation eh? Never on the same bus as you want it to be.
Then you blink and six of them go past at once before you can say 'brainfart'.
I'm telling you, it's the state of the nations curiosity that is it's current problem.
Take driving, now you1, me and my invisible dog Banjo all drive here there and everywhere, and this morning I enjoyed the heady hydrocarbon fueled dual laned experience that is the wonder of the A14. Yes, the A14 Cambridge's overflow carpark.
Now there wasn't amazing amounts of traffic on the roads and indeed on the way over there wasn't actually ever anything to stop people driving at a decent speed but no, we ground to a halt at several spots and then had to wait while things sorted themselves out.
This has happened to me before and usually it's because of one of several things.

1) Lorries, the swines driving parallel next to each other for miles and miles discussing last nights football out the window to each other.
2) People not paying sodding attention and breaking too sharply, causing panic behind.
3) People too busy worrying about things to look at rather than the actual bloomin' road.

People in category 3 will have their own special place when I take over the universe, and it will be driving around and around Jupiter. What? No surface you say? Massive gravity and radiation you say?
Shame.

But yes, I have experienced traffic grinding to a halt as curious people attempt to stare at the accident on the other side of the road which makes the whole carriageway stop.
Why? Why oh why? Certainly slow down a little, it's only prudent, but slowing down to 10 miles per sodding hour so you can attempt to catch a glimpse of a half-mangled car or the hapless tofu that it's driver has possibly become. You can't do anything, you can only cause more problems and likely more bloody accidents so keep going.

And another thing. Sandpaper.

1 Well maybe not you, but I know Banjo drives.

Have you condsidered getting your rants sponsored?

I had a good run in thins morning, which probably had something to do with starting an hour early because of a lousy night's sleep

Not sponsored, but I've vaguely toyed with asking for a newspaper column ;)

...or a spot on local radio? It could be your big break

Not sure I'd have the time for local radio; and the pressure is different for it.

Actually, the whole 'stop-start' thing is something my dad's work studied in the 80s. They drafted in a whole bundle of aeronautical engineers because the trafiic flow behaves like a fluid and obey the same laws of physics!

The results? Variable speed limits on the M25...... They work too : )

I thought you knew that - it's also related to informamtion flow

Of course, I wouldn't want him getting out of control.

Tee he. Well said!

We are trying to find a house to buy and one of our considerations is that won't involve the A14 as a means to get us to work. But given our requirements, I don't think this will be possible. SO I will have to get a much sportier car to cope with such driving conditions :)

Sounds like a good enough excuse to me!
