There is a hell on earth, and it is Butlins.
Plastic matresses on half an inch wide bed with micron thick sheets under a single layer of badly stiched wool for a blanket. Rubber food and rain rain rain.
But, that said the whole gencon experience wasn't too bad at all, I met a load of people I hadn't seen in years, made some new RP friends and played some fantastic games thanks to [livejournal.com profile] davywavy and [livejournal.com profile] sesquipedality.
Plus I got rid of my old magic cards, farewell, byebye, tata.
Thingies.
What I did discover, however, was that if I'm in an uncomfortable bed I have really wierd dreams, wierder than normal, and no I won't be describing them as I've forgotten them (save for the incident with the giant CD rack of squashing, aiieeeee!) erm.
But this led me on to the whole 'why do we dream' shbang, or at least why do we remeber dreams? Seems at least for myself the more uncomfortable and troubled I am the more clearly I can remember my dreams. This isn't exactly a line of pursuit I want to follow in order to recall my dreams more easily?
Probably not.

Butlins eh?

Well, sounds like you had fun anyway, despite the horrors of butlins. :)

Glad you enjoyed the game. That's what makes it worth doing.

Was good fun, was trying to be badger like as I could, ie short tempered and impetuous :)

I get this too, but I think the correlation is not direct causation, for me. That is, if I am unhappy, troubled, stressed etc. in my daily life, it gets played out in my subconscious in the form of upsetting dreams, including nightmares which make me wake up with a scream (unfortunately waking G up too). I only usually remember dreams if I wake up in the middle of them; therefore the more troubled I am, the more troubled my dreams are, and the more likely they are to wake me up and enable me to remember them. If that makes any sense :-)

Last night I had quite horrible dreams, one of which involved an unfortunate woman who had been accidentally consigned to a mental institution, locked in a small glass box, basically forgotten about, and fed intravenously for years (possibly inspired by watching The Shawshank Redemption last night!). The other dream involved me being hit fatally by a car as I walked down the street with G. I was quite glad when the time came to get up this morning.

which make me wake up with a scream

I had one of those on Wednesday, well, sort of; it was shouting for help but more a sort of 'well come on then you lot' in the end my frustration made me call out so loud I sat up in bed and shouted, ooops!

I, however could have done with several hours extra snoozing this morning.

But this led me on to the whole 'why do we dream' shbang,

Isaac Asimov had an explanation in Hostess.

Sympathies. Been to M***head twice in the 80s. It was bloody awful then too. Came home with food poisoning and frostbite.

I find the same when (on odd occaisions) I manage to sleep on long haul flights.

My usual method for coping with long haul flights was to pass out blind drunk ;)
