You'd get more satisfaction from a SOFA I'm sure!!! :P

Yeah, and other people would benefit from that as well. :oP

Oh, if you do get one, get one with a recording feature. Very handy.

Do not get a Diamond Rio. Just no. Mine has space for - wait for it - seven songs. And the expansion packs are like gold dust.

While you can get some pretty cool players that have full colour (if small) video screens for the purposes of storing non - mp3 data (watch Trap Door anywhere!), if you're just interested in mp3=ness, go for the i-pod. It's pretty damned reliable, they've sorted out the low battery problems now, and it's computer-player integration is top notch, as iTunes is a brilliant free little bit of kit.

and I hate macs!

just wish I could afford one...

ipods are FAR too expensive for what they are, at least in this country.

I like my Jukebox Recorder FM.

Good points
- Upgradeable hard disk, if you can face taking it apart.
- Decent firmware that's constantly improving (http://rockbox.haxx.se.)
- FM radio
- No other unnecessary frills like video
- If you can find one, about 150 quid new with a 20gb disk.
- Good battery life (10hrs or so on a single charge)

Bad points
- Build quality leaves something to be desired
- Headphones are a bit poo. (I use Koss Porta Pros instead.)
- Hard to find these days as they're discontinued.

We have a Creative Zen Xtra (60GB baybee) which I love, and is relatively easy to use. It is rechargeable so you don't have to keep buying batteries for it (good thing too) and looks a but like an i-pod, except it's cheaper.

Give in to the sofa option - she can be very glacial!
