Life through a lensflash
Aug. 2nd, 2004 09:48 amMy brain is being slowly transferred to post-it™ notes, I swear. Since my short term memory is so utterly terrible I have got into the habit of writing anything that needs to be remembered and writing it down on small pieces of paper then stuffing them in a pocket.
My brain is on small pieces of yellow paper! I'm turning into Leonard from Memento I'm telling you.
Anyway, I do remember the weekend, in part at least. T'was the weekend of the sendoff for
poetman who hopefully now is safely back in his native US o' A.
Saturday I bimbled down to London along with other motley members of Cambridge and other places to our destination cafebar... Garlic and Shots. Which was closed, doh. After some negotioation and the discovery that a nearby cafe had a) Lovely cool air conditioning b) Half price cocktails and c) A good view of the cafebar we decamped to there. People turned up in dribs and drabs and eventually aforementioned cafebar opened. Whereupon we went into the vaults of the place which was soooo goth darling, a dingy little stone cellar room mostly taken up with a cigarette burn and wax covered table, with only two hapless candles to light it. Fantastic.
Blood shots. Oh my, there were bloodshots.
Tomato, garlic, vodka and chili.
Some people sipped it, I chugged both of mine, and I'm fairly glad I did, sipping it just seemed to be a much more drawn out painful experience, it was kind of like having your throat and tastebuds carefully tortured by a wild chili beast... but nice! My stomach thought about protesting, but then it tasted the vodka and all was well.
After that it was off to
poetman's chinese of choice, Wong Kei, which was huuuuge! Multi floors! After running up and down stairs several times we eventually got a table and food (but no vodka! Sniff) And the meat eaters had to wait seemingly hours, nay decades as the veggies were fed more and more food.
But then the fodder arrived, and there was too much to fit on the table! It was quite good, I lamented the lack of egg rice and some of it seemed a little cold, but since some was boiling hot I suspect it might have been meant to be that way. But overall by the end I was happily stuffed :)
Finally we decamped off to Slimes for The Cruxshadows gig. We managed to catch some of SWARF who seemed a little lower energy than usual, but this is probably because it was hot enough to be a turkish bath in the damn place, it was insane!
But the main event started and they rocked, they are a delicious blend of bleep, vocals and a violin over the top and I enjoyed it all! The singer was really fun, walking off into the crowd with his radio mic and climbing around on cages, around people and hugging random goth-ettes and making their day. Most of the blokes seemed to be concentrating on the violinist and the two cyber-dancers, however. Mmmm. ahem.
But they were really quite fantastic, and I bought two albums before I left to run home to Cambridge to sleep, I would have stayed but it was too damned hot in there and dancing would have killed me.
Sunday I ate haggis (thanks
andrewdavies! T'was delish) with
davefish. That is he helped me eat it, I didn't eat him as a side dish.
Now it's Monday and two more days until I see
the_mendicant again! Pine pine!!

Gave Chris a call the other day to say hi at his new address and Jim wants us to get together soon... he sent me a message saying "Missing my 3 amigos" which I thought was really sweet...
Are you going to the Calling this tuesday?
