As of around 15:00 this afternoon I'll be off to Verona in Italy on a joyous business trip; I doubt my phone will work and unless I can find an internet cafe I'll be off email and LJ (I can feel the shakes starting already) until Late Wednesday or Thursday.

Now it's exceeding unlikely I'll get to see any of it except a smelly printing factory (oh the joys of MEK) but if anyones been there before anything you recommend seeing or anywhere to go?

Take it easy out there.

Argh, any earlier and I could have asked Italian people at work. Now the answer is probably going to be too late.

Apparently not. I wonder which of 6:00 or 17:00 you actually mean.

Got some things:

> Plenty of window shopping! And plenty of gelaterie....
> Piazza Bra (where the Arena, ie the local Colosseum is) and Piazza delle Erbe are very nice.

> that is what the legend says...).

If the last one doesn't sound ideal for a sad goth, I don't know what does. ;o)

And 5 o'clock is 17:00...

Get pizza. It really *is* better than in Britain. However, find a small restaurant that isn't blatantly catering for tourists, the best ood is to be found there. Take someone who can speak more than two words of italian and they'll treat you like family :).

There are two police forces, one with funky black cars: The Carabinieri who are the state police - stay away from the mothers they are *not* nice people. The local police are more friendly, but not much so.

Internet access is everywhere in italy, but I never got te chance to try it out. It's quite cheap though so you should be able to keep in touch. Your hotel may have access as well, but it will be very expensive, go out and find a cafe.

Don't go walking in forests.

"Grazi" means "thankyou" you should reply "prego" (you're welcome") or "niente" (it was nothing).

That's all I can think of to help.. Oh:

My extensive research shows that the Italian for vodka appears to be "vodka".

You know "Disk Drives - Transferring Data" wouldn't be too unusual a name/track for some experimental electronics act...
