This past weekend I visited worlds I'd never seen before. I travelled to strange and new places with people the like I'd never encountered. I saw sights and heard sounds that were strange and new, I encountered cultures that surprised and disturbed me and watched events and things that I could only begin to understand.

On Friday I went to a townie pub.
Now excuse my generalisation here, but this term at least seems to be a universal constant, after talking to one of my less alternative friends (more normal? less alternative? draw the line somewhere) and she also uses the term for virtually the same classification of people, but from a different perspective. So it is, at least, a kind of common idea not just in the microcosm of society that I dwell in.
But, it lived up to just about everything I'd imagined in the stereotypes, all the clothes (skirts short, shirts striped, shoes and trainers) they all fitted nicely into their stereotypical little world - it was like watching a slice of another world, people getting excited over the strangest things, conversations hinging on lifes fundamental concepts (for them at least) of football, soaps and shagging - at least one seems to retain a level of interest throughout the subcultures.
It was quite bizarre in a way. But then afterwards I went to Charlie Chan's and stuffed my face, the company paid for the lot - so that was good. Never turn your nose up at a free Chinese meal I say - especially at somewhere like Charlie Chan's.

Now there’s a flashback, I don't know if anyone else used to watch those old films - Charlie Chan that is; but I virtually grew up on them. That and the three investigators, ah memories, surprising I didn't end up in a more investigatory role - or the army I suppose given that I used to do that sort of thing as well, at least I avoided my initial choice of childhood job (accountant)... apologies to any accountants out there.

Saturday was just that, like a slice of French toast, it was there and after a little while and some ketchup, it was gone.

Sunday took me to the bizarre world of IKEA, somewhere I'd never been (what table defines me?) and strange and packed it was... with far too many shiny looking things for my house, far too many. My plan and transport for the place were, as is lately looking, last minute and minimal. Do I need a van? Nah, it'll probably fit. Do I need to plan what I'm getting? I'll glance at the magazine and see what's there when I get there. Everything luckily did fit, which is achievement in my little car I can tell you. Two bookcases and four CD racks just about squeezed in, along with several shiny things that caught my eye. I could spend a fortune in there I tell you.
Construction was interesting, everything seems in one piece and in the evening I chilled.
Yet another chapter in the world of me closes, now shoo as the credits roll - before everyone tries to leave.

That's it - it's over - go home.

Which one did you go to?
Ah, the joys of flat pack furniture.
When a friend moved into their new flat in Nuremberg about 10 years ago, we had a furniture assembly party. Much fun. ;o)

The one down in Thurrock, about an hours drive or so.
