Moonbeams
Thin tendrils of smoke curled from the edge of the gunbarrel as it lay discarded on the floor, dropped in panic by its wielder only moments before. At the edge of the room something moved, not so much walking as asserting it's presence in the direction it was travelling, noiseless and effortless.
There was no other movement save for the faint billowing of the curtains as wind caught the edges through the bars that blocked it. That and the shaking of the hapless man on the floor, his arms and legs quivering and failing to move beyond random, shuddering shivers. The moonlight barely framed the thing moving towards him, a chaotic outline of smooth curves and sudden alien-like tendrils and metallic looking extensions that jutted seemingly randomly from it's form.
The man whimpered quietly, only his eyes seemed to be able to obey any semblance of conscious thought right now, and that thought was squarely centred on staring at whatever nightmarish beast was about to slide fully into view across the moonbeam lines painted on the floor from the window.
