Well the problem is that the human memory is fluid, not static. In the act of remembering, we embelish the tale, and guess what, that embelsihment gets remembered as if not more strongly than the orginal memory. So whilst they may have seen fence post, the knowledge of Nessie, embelshied there memeory. Ask them in a few years and I bet they tell you they saw a glimpse of Nessie.

Also a reason why witnesses to crimes are a nightmare and tell different stories. Especially if the crime is many years old. As asking the question to jog the memory, can cause the memory to be altered as it is recalled.

Come to that, it is also nice to see science once more taking the mystery out of stuff. Tough if I was a die hard Nessie fan, I would claim that Nessie is a not an air breather and therefore no echo distortion. Or that there is a dead spot in the loch, where Nessie hides.

Plus they did not sound like they were picture scanning, just using the sonar like a giant fish finder. That and sonar and rough loch floor, do not mix well. So Nessie, could have been on the bottom amognst the loch bed clutter.

Oh..... I wonder if I am a die hard Nessie fan. Its a conspiracy I tell you. Everyone knows Nessie is a CIA and in Iraq hunting Saddam at the moment, so of course they missed hin.

Hah, I laugh at your dried frog pills, hahahahahhaha.

Nessie is CIA I tell you, he is a spy, listening in on secret plans by the Mongolian Navy.
