And I, as a good little American, have faith that my government is protecting me the best way it knows how. On the one hand, I agree, it sounds closed minded and naive, but just like a small child who has stumbled across dead animal or a used drug needle, it's better for everyone if no one tells the child what's really going on. There was a conversation in the movie Men In Black that explains it, about how a person is smart, people are stupid. There are times when I wish they would tell us more, but I know that there are things the "general population" is better off not knowing about.
I'm not a confrontational person generally, but my increasing interest lately in politics and front line issues is going to put me at loggerheads with people I think... this is just one example ;) And the quote from MIB is OOOOOH so true; Intelligence is a constant value, the more people there are, the dumber they are :)
