Chaos reigned in the freehold, some kind of wild creature was rocketing around the room at speeds that made the eyes blur to watch it. Behind it ran a shouting group of childlings, yelling and whooping. The Duke's troll guards stood impassively by him, trying to suppress sniggers as yet another painting was covered by a trail of muddy footprints. Small sprites darted around the room stealing anything that wasn't nailed down, but one of them seemed to be carrying a tiny claw hammer to remove anything that was. The redcaps were clustered in a corner arguing loudly over which part of a cow they'd brought in would be best to eat first.
"Catch it, catch it!" yelled the Duke, his usual calm expression becoming more and more a thing of the past as he stood in the eye of the storm with chaos all around him, his two guards and a silently contemplative Tom the pooka.
"Well I never thought I'd see the day..." murmured Tom "seems like the 'No protocol' agreement has got a little out of hand, might be a good time to remedy it... I'm sure they'll understand after all, it's you who are in charge here isn't it?"
"My thoughts exactly" nodded the Duke, distracted by the whirlwind of anarchy around him. He took a deep breath. "Your attention please!" his words hit the freehold like iron chains as he snapped off a curt command to all assembled to obey him and act accordingly.
Silence descended like a deathknell, you could have heard a pin drop.
One of the redcaps was the first to speak, he simply stood and said "This was not the day to do that." and walked out... the others followed.
Moments later the only only the Duke, the two trolls and Tom remained. The Duke looked around, confused. "What... did he mean?"
Tom's face was one of surprise "Really my Duke, do you not remember? You agreed that this day would be given over to the celebration of chaos, as April the first... a sacred day for all Pooka, I did remind you only earlier this week..."
The Dukes' face paled slightly.
