I am getting sooo hyper already, and I've barely had any sugar at all, mind you listening to my favourite trance track on repeat loop is not helping... plus beer at lunch, ack, bounce, must... bounce!
Great literature losses of our time
Mar. 7th, 2003 10:51 amSome stories remain untold, unsaid, folded into themselves whilst only a snippet of them escapes for the world to hear of them. These tales could become alive, like such rollercoaster giants as War and Peace or humble classics such as Green eggs and ham. But no, we are sometimes given just the smallest peek into what the story might be from maybe a fragment that has been recovered from old texts - or a snippet of ancient writings lost in time only to be recovered on a small piece of clay tablet. And we are left to wonder at the true scope of the story itself and where and what it could be about.
One such tale, revealed only briefly, is a modern loss; The classic tale of Squirry the Squirrel from the fine BBC comedy program Blackadder II in the episode 'Money'. We are given just a tiny insight into the true majesty of his tale.
"...and then Squirry the Squirrel went 'Neep neep neep' and they all went home for tea."
One can only wonder at the sheer magnitude of this tale, the trials and adventures of Squirry as he/she worked their way through the tale for the ultimate destination of teatime. And who was with Squirry? Which friends and companions accompanied Squirry on this epic journey? Did the inspiring call of 'Neep neep neep' have hidden meaning, or was it a victory cry hailed across the ages after a vast struggle through space, and who knows, maybe time itself?
Sadly this story may never be recovered, and thus we can only lament the sadly lost tale of Squirry the Squirrel.
