Goldie was dizzy. Swimming in endless circles, he'd been dizzy for as long as he could remember.
Which as he was a goldfish was around five seconds.
Suddenly he felt a jolt in the water as the invisible prison that held him was lifted up. Moments later he was being sloshed all over the place, carried away somewhere.
A ring of a bell and a bump.
"You made me drop my bag!" a voice shouted as his little world exploded and he fell into a stream from a bridge. A splosh and he was free!
No more circles for Goldie.

Huh?
Am I being blonde, or is this a reference to something?

Nope, no reference; it's my project for the year. I'm trying to write one hundred 100 word stories for a book I (hopefully) can get published.

Nice idea. Have you read "The Sweeper of Dreams" by Neil Gaiman?

Sadly I have neither read or heard of either.

Neil Gaimen wrote Sandman, I think you'd like it. I'll lend you them if you want

Sweeper of Dreams is in a book of short stories called "Smoke & Mirrors" - mostly very good, a couple of weak ones, and a couple of ohmygoican'tgetitoutofmyhead ones.

He's also written Stardust - one of the best modern fairy tales I've read, and finds loose ends I wasn't even aware of to tie up at the end.

If you print them all here then we won't need to buy your book; you'll be losing essential revenue.

I'm enjoying them, btw.

Thanks :)

Got a few to do yet before I'm in danger of damaging my vast sales revenue, ahem.

Indeed you have, but I enjoyed that one too.

It's almost enough to get me to abandon purple prose and revert to something more minimalistic. Almost. ;-)

Thanks!

'Purple Rose'? an epic you're writing?

*laughs*

Nah. Purple Prose.

As in flowery, overdone language that takes ages to say nothing but looks pretty.

But I'm not one to refuse donated words - so I'll try and do something with the title "Purple Rose".

*Snif* Man, that was buitful.

Didn't mention the big trout that ate goldie though.

Probably a good idea.
