*grin* Thanks for the sentiment, it's actually an old quote from a character I used to play that I thought I'd post in the vague hope of sparking some kind of commentary about the duality of the statement or suchlike. I'm rather peachy today, nothing really to worry about except I'm off to the gym in 5 mins to sweat it up (fnar)
I prefer the literal meaning, which is far truer than the one I replied to initially. You can't make something out of nothing (in a strictly physical sense), so nothing really is eternal.
Of course, you can (or I can using those wonderful things called Womens' Logic Plus a Rather Dusty Physics Degree) argue the opposite as well. WIth conservation of energy / momentum etc, and all that good stuff Einstein thought about, everything lasts forever, either as matter or energy, or some combination. You started off in a star somewhere.
except toast crusts.....they are eternal...or as clsoe as makes no difference. you know..whenever you clean up; you always find at least one toast crust from before the dawn of recorded time...

Re: And..
Date: 2002-01-21 06:59 am (UTC)I remember deeply treasuring a JFK quote that says something like:
"You can forgive your enemies, but you should always remember their names."
In some ways, memories are eternal -- transmitted from person to person by speech, writing, and other expressions, the concepts live on.
