Either I've missed something or FP have one of the most annoying websites ever; NO SEARCH facility, what are they on; it's fairly simple and pretty integral part of any online store dammit.

Nope, Forbidden Planet have always had one of the worst websites I've ever encountered... last time I bothered looking at it, there wasn't even a 'store', just a list of branch phone-numbers.

For a company who's primary target audience is a bunch nerds, you'd think they would have thought about this a little more

Exactly; their international store however is a bit more organised; it actually has a search option.

The search function in that awful software I'm using at the moment (translation database thing) is horrible, too. One of the most important restrictions (Whole words only) is missing which is absolutely useless if you want to search for certain terms.
Grrrrr.
