well, 3. is one of the "Swan swims bonny / fair maid drowned in Allen" group of folk songs, but frankly it could be any of them.

Just so; sung by Loreena McKennitt in this instance.

My knowledge of traditional folk type songs is sadly lacking.

There's a whole bunch of these ones, some giving a more complete narrative than others. Usually it's either the girl's fiancee, or her jealous sister(s) who bump her off by pushing her into the river (and sometimes she also hits her head on a stone), and a miller's son or wandering musician finds her washed up either in the millpond or at the riverside. In the musician versions, he makes a harp or a fiddle from her body and takes it to perform to the fiancee/sister's family; in the miller's son version they simply take the body with them to the castle or manor. In both, the body or grisly instrument speaks of its own accord and names the killer.

hehe. Folk is full of the tragic - Oysterband do a great version of 'Molly Bond'- a song about a guy who shoots his fiancée because her skirts make her look like a swan.

Oysterband are truly fab - though I haven't listened to them in a long time and had forgotten all about Molly Bond.

There are some wonderful folk songs that are fore-runners of the whole hand-stapled-to-forehead side of the goth scene. Fairport Convention do a lovely version of 'She's like the Swallow' that just needs a slightly more prominent back-beat to make it proper goff.

I'm sure you could pass a miked up Bodhran through some effects to get the authentic drum machine beat ;)
