Merits at generation; can you spend them on disciplines and stats and skills?
If so, whats the cost?

buh?

you get 7 dots of merits, merits bought with xp are at a cost of 2*new dot unless you're a carthian or an invictus. three merit points can buy you a point of blood potency

Blood potency is 8* newdot
stats are 5* newdot
skills are 3*newdot, with a flat 3 for a speciality
Disciplines are 5* newdot or 7*newdot for Out of Clan.

Knew I could count on you :)

I meant the merit points you get at generation, these are only for merits now, yes? No more 'freebies' effectively. Or can you spend them on skills/attributes/disciplines?

Oh and WP is 8 xp a dot, yes?

No more freebies - only your MC xp. Flaws are an optional rule which give you an opportunity of getting an extra xp when your character's goals are hampered by it. This is discretionary, and not a right, though. There are no negative traits.

Gotcha, so the only thing you can do with merits at generation is buy merits and blood potency for 3 dots, check?

Well techinically there is as all characters that don't have your mc spent are created as MC 1 characters so that's 50xp to spend on them.

yerp. oh, and willpower can only be bought up in game, as it can't exceed your resolve + composure total and only drops when you Embrace. (subject to anything else supernatural that drops your willpower yet to be revealed)

Yup. Merit dots can only be used for merits.

Creation XP, however, can be used for anything. Everyone gets 30 of these and you get more for every MC you have.

Dots and points are different.

You actually end up with quite a lot of points to chuck around the character, but they don't go very far because everything is exponential.

I'm finding that the trick is to fool other characters into thinking your character has abilities you (as a player) couldn't possibly afford. Much like any other game, really.

Attitude is everything!

It's also getting a lot of little skills here and there as they're cheap and hey, why not?

Little skills and little semi-useless merits.

I so regret the absence of horticulture. I think this may be Master-level-approval, as is only fitting for such a gooby Elder Discipline.

Hehe. And what about other great skills, like calligraphy and hula-hooping?

Um... I think I have a little calligraphy. If not, I shall have to get it. I have been practicing calligraphy and orthography diligently in my downtimes.

Oh dear.

I'm afraid my new character actually might be vaguely useful however; he seems to have, well, skills that have practical applications!

From what I can tell the short answer is no.

There's no freebies as such anymore, just xp to be spent during character gen.

Can he do the funky chicken?

Oh it's allll so confusing! heh

Well mostly that stupid script font they use and the fact white wolf can't format books for readability for toffee.

Horticulture would have to be a science speciality, though; as it's applied empirical knowledge to have desired effects.

I'm not sure, but there might be something in the Coteries book about it for Flower of Demeter.
