Pieces of plaster fell like snowflakes from the ceiling as the whole room shook, the noise of the train passing outside echoing through the room in a low bass rumble.
The first ray of sunshine caught the window and turned it to gold, a crack in the curtains allowing it to break through into the darkened room and cast a bright beam of light onto the bed.
Water dripped slowly from the tap, a steady drumming noise as it splashed down onto the pile of dirty washing up stacked haphazardly in the sink.
Nothing moved. There wasn't even a breath of wind across the sands. Silence and a faint sense of foreboding hung in the air, waiting...
The last flickering light for the motel sign spluttered and died, sending the whole of it into darkness just before the headlights of a car lit it up once again.
