Seen on a packet of fags today, as usual "Smoking kills"
No big news there, but how far can this go? I mean, smoking isn't exactly the only dangerous habit known that we court danger with, should beer bottles be labeled with "Turns you into a drunken idiot. Destroys your liver" should cars have big stickers on their bonnets that say "Caution: May run you over.", fatty foods have "Will make you fat", tubs of paint have "Do not drink", saws with "Not for use on humans."
Or maybe just things are that obvious they don't require lawsuits, or maybe common sense is steadily becoming a thing of the past.

My personal favourite, seen on a packet of M&S cashews:
Warning: May contain nuts

Let me tell you of the american and cruise control. He bought a camper, he put cruise control on. He went in the back to make his tea. The camper crashed, he sued the makers, as the cruise control as there was no warning that said it could not steer the vehicle.

Now this may be urban myth. But they did have to pass a law, so that Doctors could stop and give aid at an accident with out getting sued.

So I am afrid that common sense is becoming a thing of the past.

Heh.
My favourite remains the disclaimer on the front of walkers "Max" crisps, which has a huge picture of a crisp on the front.
The disclaimer says 'not actual size'

That and the woman who put her cat in the microwave makes me worry about our species in general.

Health & Safety

I have had the deep joy of undertaking a Health & Safety Audit, when I was actually reprimanded for NOT adding in my Local Safety Practices that 'Tippex must not be ingested".

It's an insane world.

By the way. Don't drink the tipp-ex, and photocopier toner is not to be used as talcum powder (an expert).

Basically any place where you can sue for multi-millions for stupid reasons. Commmon sense goes out the window. Such is the way of a system that rewards the dum.

Ever read the Health and Safety Data Sheet for Water. It is dangerous stuff you know.

I have had to write many of the COSH assements here and I am not sure why the hell I am still here.

...is that with most of these things, SOMEONE had to do the very thing they're warning us all against in order for them to decide we're too stupid to know it ourselves.

i'd like to meet the person who didn't know you were not supposed to ingest that little packet of gritty stuff that comes with new shoes.
