I would like to say something deep, profound, meaningful and insightful into the human condition, existance, life, the universe and everything... but I can't.
This is because for me such moments of insanity insightfulness come at random moments, when I'm not expecteding them and yes, usually as [livejournal.com profile] davywavy has observed when I'm coked up to the eyeballs on sugar. So for the moment insightfulness is lurking down the pub with a few mates, having a couple of beers and wondering if ego and self conciousness are ever going to finish that damn game of pool and who the hell decided to put that song on?
So for now I'll randomly ramble, which is often as close as I get to astute observations on existance.
Speaking of which I watched Contact again with a small horde of people from the Camfilmgoth crew yesterday. It's been ages since I've seen this film and I'd almost started to think about shifting it from the no.2 spot of my favourite films ever it'd been so long. But now I've seen it again it remains firmly there and I want to watch it again. For those of you who haven't seen the film the crux of the whole film (for me at least) comes down to belief, and what people believe in. For some it is truth, others religion, others science or maybe a little or a lot of all of the above. The film gives strong characterisations, one of my favourite opening sequences for any movie ever and a whole host of moments, ideas and more. It's recommended. My favourite character in the whole film remains as Hadden, the puppetmaster who only briefly appears a few times in the film but has such impact on the whole story.

The opening sequence was stunning. I noticed everyone in the room got quieter as we left the solar system! And Hadden is clever. He appears sinister but behaves positively, one of several undercurrents in the plot. Thanks btw for hosting this, with brownies and serious cookies too :¬)
