Questions from [livejournal.com profile] emperor, cheers :)

1) Where did the whole "penguins" thing come from, then?
Ah, penguins. The original origin of the penguins thing is semi shrouded in mystery, i.e. my crappy memory. But it basically ran something like this;
Friend a, buys me a toy penguin
Friend b, notes I have a toy penguin, and buys me one as I obviously like them
Friend c, notices a couple of penguins and from there the cascade effect follows.
I personally find penguins, closely followed by llamas, amazing amusing creatures and there is (allegedly) psychological evidence that watching a bunch of black and white birds waddle around on ice in a comical fashion is actually good for you. Stranger things have happened.

2) What's your biggest unfulfilled ambition?
To become fluent and more importantly, think, in a foreign language.
To me language is fundamental to conceptualisation of ideas and meanings and as such understanding of the world around us. We 'think' and this is parsed into language (our inner monologue) and the language we use flavours how we look at and colours our understanding the world itself - at least I believe so anyway.
So essentially I want to be able to look at the world in a different language. Now this theory has flaws, as [livejournal.com profile] vyvyan and I have often debated, she being an authority way beyond my own on languages, but I am looking at it more from a computer language (my own area of expertise) rather than human language point of view. Regardless of if it has any effect, I would still like to be able to think in another language.
This is likely doomed however as I have very little ability with languages at all and have repeatedly failed to learn them.
More realistically my biggest achievable ambition would be to go hangliding; which, in my mind, is tantamount to flying. I plan to go later this year :)

3) What do you enjoy doing most beyond RP and clubbing?
Hmmm, creating. Creating what exactly I've come to realise doesn't actually matter; if it's a cake or a story or a piece of code... whatever. If I can create something that other people can use, appreciate or just plain eat and enjoy then that gives me a fuzzy feeling and the world feels good. The creation is one half, the appreciation the other. It's some of what my LJ is about, I'm trying to create entertainment.

4) Where do you get the pixie crack? :)
Heh. The sweet shop market stall in Cambridge. One quid a bag 'guv.

5) If you were to recommend one CD to me, what would it be, and why?
Just one? Blarg... my musical taste varies wildly with my mood (ie blood sugar level) so this question will get different answers at different times. This morning I will recommend Portishead's Dummy, (although their other album is excellent too) a wonderful album from a band I have long had a lot of respect for, for blending lyrics, classical instruments,
electronica and scratching into something haunting, deep and reflective.
