Saw the Matrix 2 last night with the merry group of black clad gothy types. I had a small amount of trepidation before watching it as I heard some dubious things here and there but also had a lot of good things from more reliable sources; it was spankingly good however some nice ideas developing the world, and a hint at one stage to the Diamond Age perhaps. Annoying long end credits, or as I put it "A significant portion of the planets population assisted in making this film." but the mini preview of the third one looked quite good, if exceedingly short.
Addendum; My geek moment for the film came in the car chase down the motorway when I identified the SMG being used, half by it's looks and half by the sound... oh dear.
Highlight for the day however was on the drive home. Flashing lights behind me, so I pulled to the side to let the police car past, who promptly got flashed by a speed camera. Har har.

Haven't read it, but there were quite a few book references, ranging from the "I'm sure I should get that" to "Oh look, Zion *cough*neuromancer*cough*". I think that, if nothing else, will make me watch the film again.

Although the vamped-up version of When The World Ends was pretty nifty.

At least they weren't bad songs, although the anticipation of the snippet, and finding out the identity of "Mr Fishburne's Driver" did make it difficult to appreciate them.

I so need the music from the Zion pseudo-orgy scene. Since it seems highly unlikely they reproduced it there and then, it must exist in recorded format somewhere.

I wasn't impressed by the ending music actually; Rage against the machine seem capable of playing only one song for one thing. But I definately agree with you on the Zion party music - that was extremely good.
If it's anything like the first film they'll release two CD's; one of the soundtrack and one for the incidental music.

RATM do indeed only do one song ever. but they do do it rather well and they do actually mean what they say.

oh, and rumour has it that once the thrid one is out they will be realesing a 10 disc dvd/cd pack off the whole trilogy + tunes + stuff. will be pricey (and may include assorted bookage) but if they do actually bring it out it will be rather spiffy.

They'll likely do this for LotR after part 3 comes out, well eventually anyway - you'll probably need a whole shelf for it.

I hated that movie.
It wasn't even supposed t happen. The Matrix was a movie to stand on it's own, and not sequel, and the Matrix Reloaded went in a direction that stunned and disappointed me, greatly.
