The "mad old hermits" from the Princess Bride are Miracle Max and his wife Valerie the witch. (She's not really a witch though, but since every Miracle Man has to have a witch, she's been picking up a thing or two since they got married. The movie was phenomenal, the book only slightly not as good. Read the book.
