Oh my word, a roleplaying post
Jul. 1st, 2004 10:44 amYep, I know it's been a while but my roots are calling me back. Hmmm, maybe that makes me a tree... right, stop there before I diversify completely off the subject.
Roleplaying is a fairly obvious term, you assume a role and play that role. Much like an open ended play. However unlike a play there is no script and you react and act out how you think that character would be, what they would do and if you subsume yourself enough into the part how they would think.
I've played characters before for long enough that I can just snap myself into their persona and 'be' them, I no longer need to think about what they'd do or how they'd react. I make the mistakes they would I act out their failings, I am fairly good at this - or at least think I am.
Now roleplaying is basically escapism. Usually you'll examine the concepts available and ideas and play someone who is interesting or someone you'd like to be, a gangster, an assasin a high flying lawyer. Or maybe some aspect of personality you'd like to explore. Quite commonly these characters are small aspects of our own persona and we just give that part of our mind the keys to the tractor and let it drive off.
Now this is all well and good, but I had a revelation asregards to the impending next generation of LRP for White Wolf's vampire the wossname series. I've played many different types of characters through the life of this game, assassins, power behind the throne, meglomaniacs, maniacs, friendly types, helpful types, downtrodden useless people. But I needed something new, something I hadn't played before. Some idea that I'd never tried... This was going to be difficult until I had said revelation.
I'm going to play a chav.
I certainly don't have any chav-ness in my persona (if I did it would be hunted down and killed). I don't want to be a chav and I really don't want to explore chav-ness. So why?
So I can play the other side and imitate how they live to explore the pointlessness that is chavness and parody as best I can what it is to be a chav.
Well, an undead bloodsucking minion of darkness chav.
In a fiat punto - lowered and with chrome wheels.
Wheres my baseball cap...
