Rules and the Cam
Dec. 6th, 2001 09:08 amRules threads starting up, thought I'd throw in my tuppence rather than a few pages of my usual jibberish
All this comes with a 'IMHO' disclaimer, so there.
Too much rules whining is not constructive to gameplay, we're here essentially to roleplay, not rulesplay; yes the rules are the structure by which the game is built on, but I've played many games where I haven't made a single damn challenge and those games have been some of the best I've played.
For me the core of this game is the social element; if I wanted combat systems I'd rubber sword LRP instead, when you get the speed and fun of belting each other with giant rubber whatevers - and I do. But I acknowledge that for some people the combat stuff is fun too, not everyone plays the game for the same reasons.
Yes rules can make the game a pain at time, but sometimes it seems that if it's not one rule someone is whining about it's another - now to say I agree or disagree with the rules entirely, I freely acknowledge that to me the rules could have changes that I believe would be better, hell in my Rolemaster (aka Robmaster) campaign I have an entire A4 folder stacked full of updates and rules mods for the campaign - but thats my game, not an international one.
This isn't to say again, that some rules (I believe) couldn't be changed for the better, but rather to say I just get hacked off by the constant stream of complains, moans and whining about rules almost 24/7 from people, yes the points may be relevant but I just get so damn tired of all the moaning about rules it makes me want to go back to freeform sometimes and stuff rules entirely.
Ok, so I repeated myself here a bit, but I'm tired, so there, nerr.
