Amazon's 'you may also like...' feature is evil, I have just ordered a pile of CD's by people I have never heard of before, because... well, why not?

I spent about an hour a few months ago letting Amazon know that all the things on their "you may also like..." list were things I already own.

It does occur to me that Amazon is slowly building up a list of every book and film I own. Imagine how dangerous that information could be in the wrong hands...

Same here, although I do need a checkbox for "Never ever recommend this to me again, or anything even vaguely like it - the merest thought of it makes me scream as it haunts my darkest nightmares."

For when the "not interested" box is so woefully inadequate.

Exactamundo.

I don't tend to spend money on Amazon's recommendations, but I do go to the library sometimes and look for books that it recommends.

That would be the cheaper and more sensible option, yes.

Scary, I was just doing that earlier, looking at recomendations. They are surprisingly accurate, they recommended me a bunch of dodgy occult books, Doom 3, Star Wars DVDs and Hellblazer comics. All good, I would say!
sooo dangerous, though. *keeps card away*

It was payday yesterday, doooooooooooom to my card!

It is evil but not for the same reason. It keeps ordering me to buy Whitley Striber books. ACK!

[identity profile] robinbloke.livejournal.com 2004-10-01 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Thankfully I am not familiar with that horro. You can tell it you're not interested tho'.

[identity profile] silja.livejournal.com 2004-10-01 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep yep- I have suffered from that feature many times!

[identity profile] robinbloke.livejournal.com 2004-10-01 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
But it's something we live with :)

*irrelevant warning*

I LOVE the dancing penguin... Especially when you get three on the same page, all slightly out of sync. I could watch those penguins boogie for hours!
Having said that, I'm easily amused....

These ones?

Fortunately, most albums have little Real Audio snippets. However, if those sound good, it's too late. I found Unheilig that way.

*babbles about your listed music instead*

I LOVE A=HA.
