Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Where does the time go? Really, is it hiding under the sofa with legions of biros or something? I blink and it seems everything is flashing past faster than Ben Johnson strapped to a JATO. Perception is really getting wacky, I discovered I'd been gyming for three years on Friday, it really doesn't seem that long - and the culture shock from it clocking 2000 really still hasn't hit in entirely yet - and that was four years ago.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And now it's February, faster than you can say "Where the hell did the last 31 days go?" at least things are happening now; I'm trying to do something memorable every month of this year, hopefully every week even. Too often I look back on what I've done, my past weeks of life and try to think of what I've achieved/seen/done/etc and too often even not taking my abysmal memory into account I can't think of anything.
This year will be different, oh yes. I will go and do and see things the like of which I have never before, at least that's the plan.
So by 31 December (which will arrive at a time that will seem like only last week at this rate) I can look back and say "Damn, that year went fast, but I packed a hell of a lot into it."
Oh yes.

Great...
BTW, sorry I wasn't able to make your B-day party. Been a bit of a crazy world around here. Still, would love to have you and some of the other Cambs folk come north for a thing.

This may not be as daft as it sounds. You don't know how long you have left for active living (somewhere between a few minutes and 60 years: probably about 45). Counting it by years doesn't seem a reasonable way to do it.

I'm going to look under the sofa again...

And even if you didn't, did you happen to find a book of lute songs I lost last week? Yes, I know I wasn't at your place at the time...
