Dulux rice-paper is a nice colour - sort of a warmer version of cream, maybe slightly yellow. I painted my studio flat with it when I was doing it up for sale and got 2 full-price offers in the first week. I don't know if its sold by name in pots still but you should be able to get it from the dulux paint mixer machines.
I spent days with pieces of cardboard painted with all different shades of cream, magnolia and off-white tester pots trying to get the right shade - lots of them looked ok near a window but icky in the dark parts of the room! My tip is to buy some tester pots then paint it onto cereal packets or whatever card you can lay your hands on, then you can see what the colour looks like in different bits of the room without making a mess of your walls.
(i like painting houses!)
By the way only the main room and kitchen were sensible colours, I painted the bathroom in 2 shades of purple!
I sort of remember your room having a lot of light wood effects, so maybe a magnolia, eggshell, or 'biscuit' tan sort of colour would work well with that, they're a little bit more interesting than just white or the average off-white, but they give a neutral base which isn't too distracting and means you can always hang pictures up :) They can also be accented by any number of other neutral colours, even though the white/ off-white/ cream works the best.
