I had to moan sooner or later

I am viewing the incoming Prestige system with not a small amount of dread.
I am a DC2, and the notion of the beaucratic maintenance of around 30-40 characters' prestige fills me with horror and annoyance.
Worse still, I've not really got a clue what exactly it is beyond second hand rumour - nor had any kind of input to it when I'm expected to manage the damn thing - and I have to manage it when it comes out.
I became DC as we needed someone to organise venues, payments, ads, reports, complaints and suchlike. Not to keep track of everyones house points so they could make goobier characters.
Problem is I don't really know anyone else (immediately to mind) who could be DC or I'd probably quit DC in protest when the system comes in.
I hate beaucracy.

Prestige is for members, not characters and as the 'ling and C/A game have the same player base, you won't have double the work really.

As for how exactly you're supposed to work with the new system, I suggest you speak to Dave Wade.

I assume there will be a handy guide to conversion or something like that. I'm not a *C and I never want to be, especially not now.

BTW, did you get my pitiful Prestige CV?

[identity profile] raggedyman.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
we get to dp a prestige CV?!? this could get fun...

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
This is where things could start to get difficult. There will be people out there trying to claim prestige for the smallest things. However, I have complete faith in Robin, to whack those ones around the head repeatedly until they get the message. On top of that, I doubt there'd be any of the kind in Cambridge.
Anywhere else, though, I dread to think...

[identity profile] sherbetsaucers.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
Where can I see a copy of the new system?

[identity profile] robinbloke.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Pass.

Can I have a question regarding the evolution of the toilet roll instead please?

[identity profile] sherbetsaucers.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
How long IS the standard roll of toilet paper?

[identity profile] robinbloke.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
Average roll = 320 sheets
Average sheet = 15 cm

= 48 metres

[identity profile] sherbetsaucers.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. Your so much sadder than I am. :D

[identity profile] robinbloke.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 08:17 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you :)

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
It was posted to uk-general a while ago, I believe.

[identity profile] raggedyman.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
oh, I plan to claim for absolutly every single thing I can think of.
Weither I then actually accept the MC is a different matter...

[identity profile] robinbloke.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
I did indeed.

I'm halfway between 'I can't be arsed to do it and won't in protest' and 'dammit, do yourself a favour and get a gooby character clearance'

Bureuacratic nightmare indeed

[identity profile] teknostatik.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
I totally agree. It's going to be a nightmare to keep track of exactly what each person is entitled to. I'm currently going through the database for our 3 games, and there are a massive amount of officers registered here. And a few people with fairly low cam numbers. I'm hoping there will be some sort of idiot's guide attatched to the new rules when they finally appear.

But whatever the system is, I'm going to use it to create my new C/A Primary. I think it's important that the people who have to enforce the new system are seen to have a degree of faith in it.

And maybe it's time you got an ADC? Because it does sound like our jobs are going to get more complex.

What difference does Cam number make? I've been a member for ages, but only got a cam number recently, so it's pretty high. 1206 to be exact. If I'd gotten a number when I joined it would have been around the 800's (I think). This going to make a difference?

You are not a number
You are not the clothes you wear
You are not the car you drive

Re: Bureuacratic nightmare indeed

[identity profile] sherbetsaucers.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
I bloody am!

Re: Bureuacratic nightmare indeed

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
None.
As long as the date you actually joined is sorted. There are people like NST Jason who joined in 95 but have a 500 number. Rob H joined over a year before me and his number is only 70 lower...
Monty quite happily backdated mine to the date I actually sent off my app (mind you, I was one of the lucky few with only 3 months between application and receipt of membership).
Speak to your DC or even better RC (Tracey), as she's been handling memberships of late.

However, as soon as the move over to WW happens (and I doubt it won't) we'll all have new numbers, anyway.

Re: Bureuacratic nightmare indeed

[identity profile] teknostatik.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
And the new numbers appear to bear no relation to the old ones - so who knows what's going to happen then?

Oh, and as an asise - does anyone know what's going to happen to all our 16-17 year old players, seeing as they can't actually join WW-cam until their 18th birthday?

Sit on it until April, when the Tome will be done. That's one of the things covered.

Re: Bureuacratic nightmare indeed

[identity profile] teknostatik.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
Excellent.

I'll pass that on to the masses.

Saves me posting the querie to UK-General and provoking a spam-fest. ;-)

Right, I'll bully Monty next London game.

I have a copy of the proposal...

[identity profile] lanfykins.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
If you still haven't seen it, prod me and I'll email it to you.

Re: I have a copy of the proposal...

*prod*

Poem pending still BTW

Re: I have a copy of the proposal...

[identity profile] sherbetsaucers.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 07:35 am (UTC)(link)
*Flutters eye lashes* Any chance of a copy?

Re: I have a copy of the proposal...

[identity profile] lanfykins.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
I am only capable of sending things to people whose email addresses I know :)

I'd post mine here but I use my work email for Cam and don't want it given to all and sundry...

Err... think of something :)

It's in my user info.

WHOAH NELLIE!

[identity profile] ex-grimjim.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
This is just the PROPOSED MC system isn't it?
We don't have to roll over, expose our bellies and take it on.

Re: WHOAH NELLIE!

[identity profile] robinbloke.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
Just pre-stressing... been a long week.

Oh and thanks; finally someone else who says "Whoah Nellie"

Re: WHOAH NELLIE!

[identity profile] ex-grimjim.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
My pleasure.

Now, are you going to help me man the barricades and Damn The Man? ;)

Re: WHOAH NELLIE!

[identity profile] robinbloke.livejournal.com 2002-02-25 01:01 am (UTC)(link)

Might do, do I get a hat and a t-shirt?

A badge too? Sign me up!

Be thankful

[identity profile] kathminchin.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
Somehow I've got to work out how to keep track of the prestige of an entire region.

Re: Be thankful

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
Theoretically, if all DCs do their jobs, you only need to collect their reports.
You'll be responsible for handing out regional prestige.

However, that's the theory...

Re: Be thankful

[identity profile] teknostatik.livejournal.com 2002-02-22 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
In theory?

I'll have you know the Central DC team does a wonderful job at all times.

Well - the bits I'm involved in anyway. ;-)
